Identity

LA.TE. ANDES S.A. is a public-private joint venture (GEOMAP-CONICET), unique in Latin America for its state-of-the-art technology, capable of carrying out specific projects related to

  • Low-Temperature Thermochronology (fission tracks and (U-Th-Sm)/He in apatites and zircons),
  • Absolute Geochronology (U/Pb, Cron.Ar project),
  • Paleomagnetism – Magnetostratigraphy (Cri.Ar cryogenic magnetometer), and
  • 3D-2D structural modeling (Andino 3D® software).

It is also a productive technological hub for innovation in applied energy and scientific development, capable of reducing the economic impact on projects in both the exploration and development stages.

Our Story

Since 2008, the joint effort between Geomap S.A. and staff from the Institute for Research on Non-Conventional Energy (INENCO, CONICET – UNSa), and under a cooperation agreement with the University of Heidelberg (Germany, Institute of Earth Sciences, Research Group on Thermochronology and Archaeometry), has led to the development and expansion of knowledge regarding the methodology for analyzing low-temperature geothermochronology, specifically fission traces in apatites and zircons.

These activities and links between the private and public sectors facilitated learning, consolidation, training, and knowledge transfer—not only in the application of the aforementioned techniques but also in the interpretation of results within the context of the Neogene Andean fold-and-thrust belt, stretching from southern Peru to northwestern Argentina.

Applied research focused on productive development led to the preparation of reports and the publication of studies that draw on thermocronology data with direct applications to the liquid and gaseous hydrocarbons industry. In addition, fieldwork was conducted to analyze specific challenges in the various areas where Geomap S.A. has operated successfully from 2003 to the present.

This led to the formation of a research and development hub, managed through international technical and professional exchanges, with the aim of building domestic capacity to establish and ensure the long-term sustainability of the “La-Te Andes Thermochronology Development Center” project. The transfer of knowledge from the research group at Heidelberg University to this national center, based in the Province of Salta, took place through workshops and courses held at the offices of GEOMAP S.A. and at the LA.TE. ANDES center itself.

Corporate Culture

Mission

Develop and implement strategic projects based on technology and applied research, aimed at addressing critical issues in the assessment of georesources (hydrocarbons, mineral deposits, geothermal energy) and science, by applying new methodologies to determine the timing of geological processes.

Create genuine sources of employment, fostering the development of its staff and the communities in which it operates.

Vision

To be an internationally recognized leader in the quantification of time in geological processes for both industry and the scientific community.

To achieve national and international recognition as a leading analytical center (R+D+I).
